Serrated strut channels have a one-piece construction that combines two channels back to back. This construction minimizes the need for onsite welding and is ideal for frameworks that require a higher degree of structural integrity. Because of its slotted design, this strut channel can be fastened to walls and bolted on to support wiring, plumbing and mechanical components in electrical applications. Typically, this nut is available with four holes.
Standard strut channels are standardized constructions and are widely used for light structural support. They are usually made from a metal sheet that is folded into an open channel shape. The ends of the strut channel have inward curving lips that provide additional stiffness and a location to mount interconnecting components. Some structs are constructed from fiberglass. Whatever the material, they’re known for their lightweight strength.
Some strut channel styles are more rigid than others. They’re available in different shapes and sizes. The basic box section is 1 5/8″ wide by 1 5/8″ tall. Another option is a half-height style, which is 1 5/8″ wide and 13/16″ tall (41×21 mm). This version is mostly used where a strut is mounted directly on a wall. Other designs are made with a combination of shapes and sizes.
There are many other types of strut channel. In general, it forms a box that measures about 1 5/8 inches square in US units and 41 mm in metric units. A half-height strut channel is used mostly when it is being mounted directly to a wall, so that the strut can be installed with minimum effort. In addition, a deep strut is 2 7/16 inches high and one 5/8″ wide.
